Cartier Pasha de Cartier

Louis Cartier designed and dedicated some of his watch creations to special personalities. He had his name as a purveyor to the Empress and other French royal families and so the Sultan of Marrakesh, who was also called “Pasha”, approached him with the desire for a wristwatch that he could wear when bathing. The watch specially designed for the Sultan was given the name Pasha in 1932. It was not until 1943 that the Pasha was included in Cartier's official collection, with the name changed to Pasha de Cartier. He also made a breakthrough with the Cartier Pasha in terms of appearance and functionality.

Unique extravagance

Luis de Cartier came up with something special for the waterproof watch to protect the movement from water. He developed a crown guard that is connected to the watch case with a chain. This meant that the crown protection (a type of cap that is placed over the crown and twisted closed) could not be lost. This chain with the crown protection is still a recognizable feature of the Pasha watch today. For additional glass protection when bathing, he designed and developed a removable grille that could be attached to the watch glass. The grille is not found on all models, which of course makes it even more sought after by collectors. The first Pasha watch was made of gold.
In the 80s, the watch found many fans thanks to its unique extravagance, which continues to grow to this day. Over the years, the Cartier Pasha has undergone small fashion and technologically advanced changes, but has remained true to its original design. Not only the special crown protection, but also the round case with the square dial and the four large Arabic numerals were maintained.

Gone with the times

Cartier is increasingly relying on in-house calibers, which can be found in the new edition of the Pasha de Cartier. The noble materials, such as 750 rose and yellow gold, high-quality leather bracelets and the finest diamonds, are still used in production. Replacing the bracelets is quick and easy with the smart QuickSwitch bracelet changing system for leather and steel bracelets. With a large selection of colored leather straps, the watch can be redesigned at any time. In 2022, Cartier brought the new cricket back to life and celebrated such a big comeback of the watch. Colored dials, different sizes, as well as chronographs and moon phases accompany the large Pasha collection.
