Officine Panerai Luminor

Officine Panerai Luminor: A watch for generations

The Officine Panerai Luminor is one of the most famous watches from the Italian-Swiss watch manufacturer. The diving watch is without a doubt a modern legend. The crown guard on the case of the timepiece is striking. With its design and high level of functionality, the luxurious sports watch follows in the tradition of marine watches.

Historical roots

The Officine Panerai Luminor also has famous ancestors. Its roots lie in the Radiomir model. The robust and highly functional diving watch was developed by Panerai in 1936 on behalf of the Italian Navy. It was extremely waterproof thanks to the screw-down winding crown and case back. Hands and markings that glow in the dark ensured optimal readability in poor visibility underwater.

The luminous substance specially developed by Panerai was called Radiomir and was patented. Because this luminescent substance was highly radioactive, an alternative substance, Luminor, was used in its place. The new model with the same name was born in 1960. Since then, the Officine Panerai Luminor has also impressed with its traditional characteristics, such as its robust case in the distinctive cushion shape. The protective bridge reliably ensures that the crown is water-resistant.

Impressive model variants

With its features, the Officine Panerai Luminor stands out from the variety of luxury diving watches. A special feature is its size. The originals, which the company made in the 1950s, had a case with an impressive diameter of 47 millimeters. The new models of the functional Luminor diving watch are no slouch either. Their case sizes vary in size and, depending on the model, have diameters of 40 to 47 millimeters. The Luminor collection includes models with various features as well as special editions. The Officine Panerai company also relies on variety when it comes to the materials used for the cases. Depending on the model variant, they are made of steel or titanium, red or white gold. The screwed-on cases are partly covered with sapphire glass. Large numerals and hands are typical for all models.
