Water resistance

Waterproofness doesn't just protect watches during sports and leisure activities

Buyers of high-quality watches today attach great importance to the water resistance of their valuable pieces. This criterion is particularly important for luxurious sports watches when customers buy valuable watches. Because of this feature, the luxury watch retains its value for years.

Waterproofness is carefully checked

In order for manufacturers to indicate the water resistance of their watches, the watch must undergo a test. A test procedure is used to determine exactly how watertight the watch is. The process is carried out in accordance with DIN standard 8310. Static pressure on the watch allows conclusions to be drawn about how much bar load the watch can withstand. The watch is waterproof if it successfully passes this test when new.

Pay attention to information in cash

The water resistance specification should be given in cash. Statements in meters say nothing about the exact depth of the dive. If the water resistance is 3 bar, the watch is splash-proof. Worry-free swimming with the watch and skiing are possible at 6 bar. At 10 bar, the watch can be used for snorkeling and water sports. Diving watches can handle between 12 and 20 bar as measuring devices for diving with equipment. Watches with specifications of 100 bar and more are special diving watches that can survive even a deep sea dive without damage.

Handle watches with care

If a valuable watch is exposed to temperature fluctuations or other influences such as dust and cosmetics as well as shocks and sudden movements, this can affect its water resistance. Therefore, treat your watch carefully and, among other things, pay attention to where you put it. If possible, do not operate the crown and pushers underwater.

After diving, you should rinse the watch with fresh water. Remember that seals can wear out. Therefore, have your luxury watch checked regularly.
