Since then it has been one of Blancpain's special symbols. An important complication on the Blancpain Villeret Chronograph is the flyback function. A chronograph equipped with this combines the functions of stopping, zeroing and starting in just one operation. The hands of the watch fly back again with a single press on the crown. A chronograph without a flyback function, on the other hand, has to be pressed three times to interrupt the stopping process, reset the hands again and start counting again.
Blancpain - one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world
Blancpain's history goes back over two centuries to 1735. The young watchmaker Jehan-Jacques Blancpain was living and working in Villeret in western Switzerland at the time. There he initially only manufactured individual components for watches in his house. In 1815, he transformed Blancpain into a division-of-labor watch factory. But Blancpain only began to write the big story in the 20th century. In the years from 1950, Blancpain watchmakers set about designing tiny hand-wound movements. Finally, in 1982, Jean-Claude Biver and Jacques Piguet acquired the rights to the Blancpain brand. A year later, Blancpain fueled the rebirth of the mechanical watch with the introduction of a moon phase wristwatch. Just two years later, an extra-thin watch with a minute repeater followed. Finally, in 1987, the Swiss watch house Blancpain launched what was then the smallest automatic chronograph with a date display in the world. A tourbillon with an eight-day power reserve came in 1991. In the same year, Blancpain thrilled the world with the "1735". The most complicated wristwatch in the world at the time consisted of 740 components. The watch brand has been part of the Swatch Group since 1992. Blancpain has had the status of a manufacturer, which is important for its prestige, since 2010.
