Rolex GMT-Master II

A milestone for the Swiss watch manufacturer Rolex was the presentation of the new Rolex GMT-Master II, reference 16760, in 1985. It received a new sapphire crystal and an exclusive, bidirectional rotating bezel in black/red with a 120 grid. However, the real sensation back then was the new Rolex caliber 3085, which made it possible to adjust the 12h hand independently and thus allowed two different time zones to be set without having to adjust the bezel.

In the same year, the 16750 was equipped with a glossy white gold leaf and set indices. The GMT-Master also received a sapphire crystal and a new bezel in 1988. The model number or reference number has been changed from 16750 to 16700. The caliber 3175 was used as the movement. At the same time, the new caliber 3185 was installed in the Rolex GMT-Master II. Here the name changed from 16760 to 16710.
In 1998 the luminous material was changed and Superluminova was used instead of tritium. A year later, the time of the GMT-Master was finally over and the only focus was on producing the Rolex GMT-Master II. The model 16710 received a new bracelet in 2000, followed in 2003, first by a laser crown in the sapphire crystal, and later by a modified case without pierced horns. The last steel versions (16710) that were delivered already featured the new caliber 3186.
The new models came from 2005, including the new 3186 caliber, the case is much more massive than the previous models and now has a large triplock crown. The new ceramic bezel is based on a ball bearing mechanism, the dial has the same large indices and wider hands as on the Submariner anniversary model and the Yacht-Master. The strap is also new and has a more solid and high-quality clasp.
