Looking back at the history of the Ingenieur, we would like to report the following: The IWC Ingenieur wristwatch was first introduced in 1955. At this time, this IWC watch was equipped with the first double-winding automatic movement. This was considered an absolute innovation on the watch market. The IWC Ingenieur was developed by technical director Albert Pellaton. The Pellaton winder of the same name, which has been used in various IWC watches since 1946, was named after Mr. Pellaton. This mechanism was also patented in 1950. Even back then, a power reserve of up to 7 days could be achieved. The construction of the watch has been continually developed and brought up to date with the latest technology. Around twenty years later, IWC installed quartz-based clocks in its engineering models.
In 2005 the family business celebrated the return of the engineers. The Ingenieur Automatic gets a new, puristic design and technical innovations such as the IWC manufacture caliber 80110 with Pellaton winding and integrated “Shock Absever Systems”. Later, new IWC Ingenieur models will come onto the market to mark the partnership between IWC and Mercedes-AMG. Materials inspired by motorsport, such as carbon, are also used. In 2011 they are working on the IWC Ingenieur Silver Arrow, which bears the name of the legendary Mercedes Silver Arrow racing car. This watch is a technical masterpiece and even more precise than the previous models. In 2013, IWC launched the Ingenieur Dual Time in stainless steel and carbon, which has an additional display of a second local time.
