Rolex Submariner

In 1953, after much experimentation, Rolex launched its first dedicated wristwatch for their brand's divers. The Submariner was here! Initially, only water resistance of up to 100 m depth could be guaranteed, but this was significantly exceeded by the constant further development of this model over the years. The case and bezel were strengthened in 1957, followed by crown protection in 1959. Later, in the 60s and 70s, the Submariner was also equipped with plexiglass. A date display was added in 1966 and in the 80s it received a left-hand rotating bezel. From 1988, when it was also fitted with a sapphire crystal, it was water-resistant to a depth of up to 300 m.

  • The Rolex Submariner differed from other diving watches in the early years simply because the watch was never intended for military purposes and was only introduced into the watch trade as a normal watch for everyday use. But of course the militaries of several countries recognized the possibilities of using the Rolex Submariner and still used the watch for their armed forces.

A particularly publicity-rich event occurred in 1960, during a diving trip by the famous Jacques Piccard. He attached the Rolex, which at that time could only have a water resistance of up to 200 m, to the diving ship “Trieste”, which he guided to a depth of 10,916 m.

Nowadays, and for good reason, the Submariner is one of the top luxury watches in the world, and perhaps it is also the best known. After Sean Connery wore it in his first James Bond films, it became an icon, characterized by prestige and reliability. It was a benchmark for high-quality workmanship and excellent functionality. From then on, its excellent readability and the almost indestructible Oyster case were the hallmarks of a Submariner. The precision of the chronometer movement and the dial inscription were in a class of their own.

The Sea-Dweller and Sea-Dweller Deepsea models were a further development for even greater diving depths, namely up to 1,220 m or 3,900 m. The Sea-Dweller Deepsea also contains a number of additional modifications.

The Rolex Submariner 116613LN and 116613LB are a classic.

The Rolex Submariner reference 116613LN is certainly one of the world's most famous diving watches. This Rolex watch has been the icon of all diving watches since 1953.

The watch shines with a black dial and a one-way rotating bezel with 60-minute graduations and an extremely scratch-resistant Cerachrom number disc. A sapphire crystal with a cyclops magnifier is used to enlarge the date. The Rolex Submariner 116613LN is waterproof to a depth of 300 meters. At this depth, many a submarine reaches its limits, not to mention a human diver. The Submariner is perfectly readable even underwater thanks to Chromalight indices and hands with long-lasting blue luminosity.

When it comes to the movement, Rolex relies on the mechanical Perpetual movement with a self-winding mechanism, caliber 3135. This Rolex manufacture movement is a completely in-house production by Rolex. With this luxury watch you can not only enjoy the beauty, but also a watch that is and remains extremely stable in value! In short, a safe investment for the future that also brings joy to your wrist. Over the decades, the timepiece with the striking dial became a sought-after item for sporty watch wearers. The latest generation of the Rolex Submariner comes with important extras. You too can choose this special diving watch. We will be happy to trade in your worn Rolex. We also buy used watches at a fair price and at any time.

    Functional details

With the Rolex Submariner, the Rolex watch manufacturer takes up the tradition of the first diving watches in this collection and complements them with remarkable extras. One of them is the rotating bezel. A 60-minute graduation is engraved. It makes it possible to read the exact diving time. The decompression time can also be controlled in this way. The material from which the bezel is made is extremely scratch-resistant. Cerachrom is a hard and extremely corrosion-resistant ceramic. The outer edge of the bezel is serrated. This gives it a special grip underwater, even with gloves.

    Durable material

The Rolex Submariner is made from various high-quality materials. Some of the models are made entirely of 904L stainless steel, an extremely hard and resistant high-tech steel. Cases, crowns and bracelets of other watches in the Rolex Submariner collection are made of yellow or white gold. Material combinations of cool stainless steel and precious gold are also used. Since the early 1930s, Rolex has manufactured a large number of its watches from Rolesor, a trademarked material.

The bracelets on which the watches from the Rolex Submariner model series are worn are robust and comfortable. The Oyster bracelet perfectly combines aesthetics and technology. The Glidelock system allows it to be extended easily and without the use of tools. This means it also fits over the diving suit. The strap is securely closed with an Oysterlock folding clasp.

    Good view of time

Dials in strong colors such as blue, black or green ensure that the time can be read perfectly. This is an absolute must for diving watches. A light capsule at the starting point of the bezel ensures that important information can be recognized precisely, even under water.
