Daytona's recovery came later
The name Daytona was only given to the appropriate Rolex references from 1962. It goes back to a car race that has been taking place in Florida, USA, since the beginning of the 20th century. Numerous race records were achieved in this race. Sir Malcom Campbell was one of the great record holders – and at the same time a very enthusiastic Rolex wearer. Campbell praised the brand for the unique robustness that was proven time and again in his races. In 1962, the Rolex company began timing the race and officially named the reference 6239 Daytona. Today, races are still held at Daytona, including the popular 24-hour race. Rolex has maintained its commitment to this racing experience ever since.
